Inaugural Post

Welcome to the Straub Exercise Blog!  Enter your starting goals here!

As a reminder the rules are as follows:

Exercise must be 20 minutes consecutive.  That counts as one day exercised.  You will probably exercise for longer than that.  That's great! But that doesn't mean you get to count more than 1 day.  You may exercise in three small shifts during one day.  Again, that's great! But to count, you must have 20 consecutive minutes.

Contest starts January 15.  Every month I will send a reminder to post your days exercised to this blog.  So the first official update will occur on February 16.

Everyone should send me the entry ante before April 1.

OK!

  3. We enter our time everyday or once a month?

  4. We don't have to leave times at all; remember we are just counting days worked out.

I dont' know how we want this to work....we can create a post for each person to update their own workouts, or we can check in each month (or week) with each person reporting. I dunno. What do you think?

  5. Reporting our days once a week seems good to me.

  6. sounds good. does walking count?

  7. I agree about once a week...so for this last week:

    Andy:1 day
    Ellen: 1 day

  9. My mom's having trouble posting a comment. Do you have to have a google id or something? Any suggestions?

  10. Frank, if you worked out by walking, (I'm sure it means different things to different people) then yes. People have to monitor themselves.

In terms of reporting, ok I will set up a separate entry for each week. We don't need to report anything until the 22nd, when you will count your activity for the previous week.

  12. 2 below zero (real temp) this morning...walked for 30 minutes with the dogs. I don't know why they don't get cold. I bought grippers for my shoes so when they pull I can grip on ice...I'm so prepared!

  14. Ooooh. Don't wait till after dinner. Now I'm locked in a pattern of never feeling like it in the morning because I just did the night before and it's harder at night.

  15. I hear you will have the coldest week of the winter there, at least in MN, this next week, so you should all go work out tomorrow for sure!

  16. It's just awful. Amd my bathroom is ripped apart so I guess I have to go to the Y to shower. If I just sit in fetal position with hot water running over me does it count? I'll be at the gym! I just hate dragging kids around in this weather.

  17. Oooh. the hot steam room!

Why is this blog like Fort Knox?

  18. Emily it only is for you.

OK, I changed some settings, see if this is better.

  20. If you can comment on other blogs there is no reason in teh world why you can't comment on this blog now, so if you have problems I have no idea how to help you.

  21. No why did this come up as Tom Kennedy? That's his email address. Weird. I didn't type that in.

  22. Is it ok if I just post for Stevo? I can't even get him to go on facebook. And that's after we saw the movie.
Every day so far! It helps to have a partner/competitor. We're also entering the Nonpariel weight-loss thing with the Milbraths, mostly for the free month at the Y. A team of 300-pounders is always going to win that one.

  23. Well I set up a google account and used it once but when I tried to post the comment above it wouldn't post, so I am going to post as anonymous and sign my name in the comment.

  26. This a.m. the walk was cold...could only do 20 minutes, it was 18 below. I have a red spot on my cheek that won't go away!
I caved in and joined the YMCA, had a 90 minute workout on Tuesday. I've worked out everyday this week and I'm trying to do 3-1,000 calorie days a week with 1800 calories days in between, but it's only been since Sunday.

  29. Wow, Mary, that's awesome. Did your red spot go away?

Stevo shoveled for three hours today. I was cleaning house to get ready for Caroline's baptism so I still have to do treadmill bare minimum or something.

    Cathy

  30. redspot is fading...when is Caroline's Baptism?
We had company Friday night..there goes the calorie count, but I made fat free stuff (for the most part and they didn't know) so no exercise Friday or Saturday because Friday night Mike was testing bartending again with our guests. He was good because we ended up sitting on the floor and doing Karoeke(sp?)...so Saturday was shot!!!
But Sunday I exercised...but then was invited to a BEARS/PACKERS party...back on the diet today, though. I guess if I was a hermit I could very easily lose weight!
    Mary

This is a VERY satifying fast lunch:
Potato (in the micro) while it's cooking boil veggies in a cup of chicken broth...in a soup bowl cut open the potato and drop a tsp. of FAT FREE cream cheese on it and then pour the broth/veggies over it. SOOO yummy and calorie count is 180 and zero fat.

7 days of exercise for week one! (still gained weight at my diet club weigh-in).

I am having trouble figuring out my competitions records so far. What do want our reports to look like? I like the Jayjack format:

    Lisa: 7/7

I know I'm late with my post but am hoping that does not penalize me...

I just figured out that I need to push preview before I can get the post comment to work.

Do we need to set paramaters? Does cleaning house count? shoveling snow?
    Lisa

  33. I would say shoveling snow should count although we aren't going to get any more this winter so it doesn't matter. Cleaning house is too indeterminate - were you dusting with a feather duster or scrubbing a floor hard on your hands and knees? When I clean I spend a lot of time looking at a room and planning what I want to someday do with it. I hardly ever get out of breath that way.
    Cathy

  34. I would say it's hard to say what counts and what doesn't because people are at different levels. Really, doesn't everyone know when they are working?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I know many (stay at home) housewives who diligently clean and they are pretty fat...snow shoveling should count, but maybe like 30 minutes of shoveling = 20 minutes...it's really an upper body thing, right?
    Mary

  36. So here's a question. What do some of you say to yourself when you are working out and really really want to quit but know you should keep going? What is happening in your head?

    ReplyDelete
  37. What??? Only ten minutes! I know I've been on this treadmill longer than that! Faster! Go faster! Sooooo boring! Morning TV sucks! My coffee's cold! What should I have for lunch?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I like to alternate treadmill (just so fun) with pilates-type workouts and next week we'll be back to swimming 3X/week and I can go back to hanging drip-dries on the treadmill.
    Cathy

  39. I tell myself I can only look up after I've run 200 steps. Then I run 200 steps and see if I'm any closer to the end. Then I think about how lame I am that I want to quit and that I wish I had a coach.

  41. I sprained my ankle or tore a ligament or something. I fell down the stairs and caught myself by grabbing the rail, but may have been better off just falling bc my ankle hyperextended.

  43. Clumsy - fell going down the stairs at home.

It isn't that awful, but I definitely won't be able to run or walk or do anything (except armchair aerobics perhaps!) for a few weeks. I don't have crutches or anything. I'm mainly pissed about losing my endurance bc it's SO HARD to get back in running shape.

  44. Can you swim?

  45. Sure I could. Once it warms up. It's cold for Florida this month...58 this very moment.
